Tips for Lone Wolf mission 4?

Hi all,
I recently purchased Lone Wolf from GMA Games. I've never been much of a fan of games like this but enough friends persuaded me to try it and I ended up buying it. But I'm stuck on Mission 4. That's the one where your job is to intercept and destroy the three troop carriers on their way to meet up with others near an island. Problem is I always seem to get spotted by the three destroyer bodyguards. I'e tried sneaking in using the electric engines but the problem is the battery doesn't last long enough to get from the starting point to where they are. And if I use my periscope they spot me real quick. So I could use some tips if anyone has any. Thanks in advance for your help. This mission has been driving me up the wall for weeks.

First, you can try setting your experience level owe if you haven't already. If that doesn't work, try going deeper and only going at quarterspeed. Also, if you run your engines for about thirty seconds, then shut them off until your speed is zero, then repeat, it will let you move without draining your bateries so much.
Or, if your feeling a littl more daring. Try this.
Go until you see the first destroyer. Then stop your engines and wait for it to pass in front of you, make sure you are targeting it and have your torpedo doors open. Shoot it and sink it, I like using two torpedos just to have a better chance of sinking it.
Then, go to full engines and get out of the area you were in. You don't have to go too far. Wait for the other destroyers to come and start attacking. Then go to quarter power and move slowly away, they probably won't otice you if your careful. You don't even have to use the bateries if you do it right. Just keep doing that, shoot and then ove and wait for them to leave, then shoot something ese.
Hope that helps.

Agree with previous poster. Also, in case it wasn't clear, this is a good tip to get away without getting sunk every time. Once you've hit a ship, the other destroyers will come looking for you. Go to full engines and dive down and move away from the spot you were at when you shot. Once you have some speed, turn off your engines completely. Your momentum will keep you moving for a little while but the destroyers won't be able to target you with the sound of your engine. This will usually move you far enough that they might come close but they won't hit your sub.

Well I'm playing on the lowest experience level possible so changing it wouldn't do any good. I'm not entire clear on the rest of what SilverLightning said though. Something about runing the engines for 30 seconds or something?

Well hears a tip that i can give on the subject of detection. In my experience, You will get spotted at 20 feet depth, however if you set your depth to 40 metres [ult plus d then type 40 then press enter], Then you can use your periscope with out fear of detection. Be warned though, you can't use your diesel engines below 30 feet. Also, About targeting the distroyers. It can be done, but you'll have to be quick off the mark, cause they move fast. that's the best i can give at this time.

Just one problem. Alt+D didn't work. Also, there's not enough bettery in the electric engines to get you from the start of the mission to the place where the Destroyers and troop carriers are. So I'd still have to go part of the way on Diesel engines, which is a sure way to get me spotted.

Apollogies, i ment Fullstop plus the letter d. And you don't have to go all the way there on battery power, You can get to say the middle of d2, then as soon as your radar picks up the distroyers then you can dive.

I still don't understand what you mean. All pressing D does is tell you your current depth. There's no way to dive in meters instead of feet.

What i'm trying to say hear, is that in order to set your submarine to a certain depth, you must hit the period key followed by the letter d key, then type in the depth you want to go. for example. if you want to go to 40 metres, press Period, followed by the d key, then type 40 then press enter. I would also suggest you read the manual. Go to the lone wolf sub folder, and press enter on read manual in text format. I know it can be confuzing at first, but If you keep at it, you'll do fine. Good luck

Oh I read the manual. That's how I know how to dive. And you dive in feet, not meters unless the speach is wrong. Hitting period and D and then typing 40 will dive to 40 feet. I guess I just have to figure out some way to avoid being spotted long enough to actually take out one of those damn destroyers.

Well I guess it helps not to speed up time with the F8 key. Then again that could have little to do with it. THe upshot is I'm not entirely sure how I managed it but I finally! managed to complete Mission 4. I think a couple of the Destroyers might have come close to spotting me, but I somehow managed to take them all out before any of them fired on me. Of course I did waste a good few torpedos and had to run back to my supply ship after I dealt with the Destroyers bt at least the Troop Carriers didn't run away between the time I resupplied and when I got back to the area where they were. Now it's on to Mission 5...

Yep. Then I can start creating my own missions.
